That’s why they ware burning all excess of it on the starting point in the north of Russia for months. Most probably this wasn’t enough to limit the growing pressure in the pipelines. Seymour Hersh has lost a bunch a credibility by breaking news stories with an absense of evidence over the past 20 years. Some of his stories have been thoroughly debunked, I was trying to figure out the other day if he is credible because edward snowden has sort of indicated via one of his tweets that he agrees with Hersh's view. Edward snowden is one of the most proven reliable advocates for truth in my opinion so I I was taking this theory more seriously, but based on how he seems to have lost credibility with media on the left and right across the board, and this rambling evidence-less way he talks about stories, I think he might be making things up or accidentally reporting nonsense and be convincing other sincere people who are taking his earlier career pullitzer as proof that he is credible.

There was a purchase deal proposed to Yeltsin (as the weakest link), which he turned down anyway. Perhaps it might be taken by force. In September German Gas tanks were already being filled to avoid any reason to open that pipeline. We good for a long hard winter. Also we still pump the gas indirectly from Russia, afaik. I don't see how that would be enough of an insentive to risk relationship in general. For example: Nato stationed these defensive ground to air rockets in Poland AFTER Russia broke a treaty banning middle range rockets, by stationing offensive middle range ground to ground rockets in Kaliningrad, that can reach almost every European capital. The claim that the NATO rockets could be converted to ground to ground rocket is BS as well, as the hardware for that first would need to be developed, as it doesn't exist. Moreover, also the warhead of a ground to air missile is not really capable of causing a lot of damage, so those would needed to be exchanged, too. So the claim is: we feel threatened by your defensive missiles, you positioned against our offensive missles, because if you would completely rebuild them to be something totally different, you could attack ground targets with it....in theory. Also: Gas prices on the market here in Germany are at an 2-year low, so his claim is just plain wrong. So in Germany we have the Tagesschau which is the state-TV news program that most Germans derive their news from. These guys have "fact checkers" and one of them checked Hersh's article. Now you won't believe this, but they translated "plant shaped charges" as if Hersh meant explosives that are shaped to look like plants. I KID YOU NOT when I tell you they even interviewed a demolition expert who, somewhat baffled told them that he deemed it very unlikely they used faux-plants made from explosives on those pipelines. So the "fact checker" of the main German news channel (state sponsored!) concluded that Hersh's article can't be trusted. When people started to laugh at them on Twitter, the demolition expert apologized profusely for taking their hilarious translation at face value without getting suspicious (poor guy!) and the Tagesschau just pulled their article from the web without comment. well, the Hersh story fell apart quite quickly and unraveled at the seams. Jens Stoltenberg being a CIA asset during Vietnam? he was under 18 at that point in time. Norwegian P8 Orion flying over? Nope, Norways P8´s dont enter service till later 2023. Divers operating from a norwegian ship? Nope again, the ship in questioin (also another class than Hersh stated) did not stay in the area long enough for a single dive operation (around 90-120minutes at least are needed for each dive, due to saturation you need multiple dive teams for quick sucessive dives) and was not really that close to the explosion zones. The list of facts that speak against Hersh is long and getting longer every day. For example that a russian ship was over the explosion sites for prolonged times (meaning long enough for several 2 hour dives)....

The Nord Stream pipeline was an anachronism with Germany pumping billions of Euros into a regime that was subject to sanctions. With the pipeline gone Germany has built LPG gasifier plants quickly and is no longer dependent on Russian gas. Russia is likely to end up as little more than a vassal state of China.

The repairs needed to bring Nord Stream back online are an everyday occurrence in the oil and gas industry, usually taking about 48 hours from start to finish (excluding logistics). Both Russia and Germany could have had Nord Stream back online in less than a weeks’ time. So if Nord Stream is still offline, it is by their choice. This undeniable fact causes me to question Seymour Hersh’s objectivity in this case. Being the Pulitzer Prize winning investigative journalist that he is, he most certainly knew repairing Nord Stream was a relatively quick fix, and that it should have been back online almost immediately. But he neglected to include that part; didn’t he?
